Act I: Prologue[]
Thirty years prior to the events of the story, Uberta and her husband Maximillian live as common folk in a cottage somewhere in the kingdom of Chamberg. Sir Chamberlain pulls up outside their cottage to announce that due to the death of the king, to whom Uberta was distantly related, she is now the queen. After moving into Chamberg Castle, Chamberlain and palace staff then instruct Uberta (That's What It Takes To Be A Queen) and her and Maximillian have been invited to a royal tea by King William and Queen Aubri. Upon arrival, King William & Queen Aubri notice Uberta who accidentally breaks a cup. Aubri covers for Uberta by claiming she "broke another", and compliments her on how she plays the teacup. The two queens get along famously.
Uberta then encounters her future nemesis, the Queen of Wixom, whose cause is dogs. Uberta and Maximillian are then crowned. Later that night, Uberta shares her doubts with Maximillian, who reassures her and calls her "the queen of queens."
Sometime later, Uberta is asked to be part of The Council Of Crowns (ten crowns working together to spread good and protect one another) but requests Maximillian do it. Despite him not being in the bloodline, Uberta gives him the job as she has a cause to pursue. Uberta has tea with Aubri later that day, with Aubri giving her the idea that unwanted dogs might be more lasting. They head to the pound, to start their "Save The Dogs" cause and find the perfect poster dog. Uberta comes across three dogs who were described as "the worst of the lot". Uberta names them "This, That And The Other”.
Queen Uberta and King Maximillian attend the Council Of Crowns, and are welcomed by King Sebastian. Uberta informs the council of her cause who back her. As she leaves, Edgar quickly turns to the topic of thieves who are raiding the crops and herds, calling them barbarians - much to the defense of Maximillian whose own father was a thief. To Maximillian, it would be better if they called the “thieves” what they really were- hungry people in need of work. King William breaks Maximillian apart from Edgar, and they all agree that Max should negotiate between the land owners and thieves. That night, Maximillian encounters three thieves in a barn and his Cousin Peter. After a failed abduction attempt, they encounter a land owner and Max makes a deal with the thieves and landowners. Thanks to this deal, the thieves are given work.
Back at the castle, the Queen Of Wixom learns that Uberta's cause is dogs, and challenges Uberta to a dog show! Uberta gleefully accepts. Uberta confides in Aubri, who tells Uberta that going about against Wixom's poodles is a tall order. She tells her that she needs to find a trainer, as well as someone to feed the dogs correctly. Chief Ferdinand (who had been watching the Queens, misunderstanding their body language) walks out, and Uberta hires him as her chief.
The Council Of Crowns meet, where they brief on the threat of pirates.
Upon searching the wreckage, the came across Max's journal, presuming him dead.
Upon returning and telling Uberta the news, King Ivan & King William agreed that Max's journal would remain private, as well as hidden away.
Uberta sees Derek playing catch and fire with Rogers. As she does, Uberta hears Maximillian's voice tell her that she will be the "queen of queens". This encouragement brings Uberta out of her mourning Uberta proceeds to claim she has a kingdom to run, a king to raise, and a queen to become.
One year later.
Aubri is pregnant with her and William's first child, with Uberta at her bedside. Uberta tells Aubri she knows that she is going to have a boy, and that him and Derek will be best friends, while William and Derek wait outside. Then finally, Odette is born. However, while William is presenting Odette to the kingdom, Aubri dies.
Days later, the servants of Williams kingdom send for Uberta, while Derek teaches Bromley catch and fire. Upon arriving at the kingdom, Uberta is given Baby Odette. William confides in Uberta that he feels alone, Uberta reminds him in turn that they are in the same boat. For the sake of their kingdoms and their children, they must keep rowing.
